You are beautiful. Just the way you are.

Browsing around today, I found a link to Don't Compare Yourself to Celebrities, a Pinterest board dedicated to pointing out Photoshops and showing before/after pictures of celebrities. You guys, this makes me sick. How are we ever going to be able to raise children who are comfortable in their own skin if all we can show them is picture after picture of altered women (and a few men) and tell them it is beauty?

Go browse through it. If you've ever looked at an ad and hated yourself out of comparison, this should make you feel an ounce or two better.

I wish we could make this media bullshit stop. I wish our kids could grow up in a world where being themselves is enough. How bad does it have to get before we realize how much harm we're doing?

  1. In addition to this, I hate America's collective sense of what "fat" looks like. While I am by no means a fan of the Kardashians, it astounds me how often I hear people say, "OMG Kim and Khloe are so fat." Really? And I hear the guys at my job saying shit like, "She's put on a LOT of weight" about a girl who probably only weighs 140lbs. I can only imagine what they say about ME!

    Society is so effed.

  2. I needed to go browse that. Thank you for the post. Today was one of those days that I wished I was skinny, didn't have to exercise, and all around felt like crap about myself...I don't need to exercise, I just need to purchase photoshop.

  3. Amen! We live in a society where it's okay for men and women both to just tear apart women for being too fat or too skinny or not curvy enough... whatever. People don't look like that, not even models. And we act like "oh everyone knows it's photoshopped." Then why continue to do it? Why not use real less photoshopped models? I think people really underestimate the effect it has on young girls and young women.
